Forms and Service

Today I looked at the box on my desk and there are several sets of forms waiting for me. Waiting to be printed, filled out partially, noted with sticky notes and “sign here’ stickers, put in an envelope with carefully weighted postage, there and back, and then I wait. I used to use pdf files by email, but few of my clients like to print and fill them out themselves. So I use the old paper method that gets results.
I look at them with regret but then a light flickers. Yes, filling out forms is not finance, but it is financial service. And I am a financial service professional. Maybe 20 percent of my work is actually making financial decisions and maybe 80 percent is seeing that the proper forms are filled out and submitted correctly to achieve that goal.
So filling out forms is service and I am glad to be in the service economy.
